Tough first half costly for Sabre men's lacrosse against Benedictine in 19-10 defeat

FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's lacrosse (3-4, 0-2 NACC) could only manage two goals in the first half of a 19-10 loss to Benedictine.

The Eagles were able to start fast against the Sabres scoring four unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead after the first quarter.  The second played identical to the first quarter as the Eagles scored the final four goals of the half to go ahead 12-2 heading into the break.

Marian was able to bounce back to open the third quarter scoring three of the first five goals, but the Eagles would manage to outscore Marian 4-3 and take a 16-5 lead into the fourth.  The final quarter proved to be the best quarter for the Sabres as Marian was able to open with the first three goals of the stanza.  The Sabres outscored Benedictine 5-3 for the period to put the final at 19-10.

Junior Finn Maloney paced the offense with a game-high five goals, while senior Tommy Gerlach paced Marian with a game-high seven ground balls.  In goal, sophomore Richard Summers III made six saves and took the loss, while sophomore Cameron Nevins made five saves on the final 10 Eagle shots.

Marian travels to Illinois Tech Saturday, April 10 for a 2:30 p.m. start in NACC action.
