FOND DU LAC - Marian University baseball (3-11, 0-0 NACC) played tight with No. 5 Aurora but fell to the Spartans 3-1 and 5-3.

It was a day for the pitchers as both offenses had a tough time scoring runs.  The Spartans opened game one with a pair of runs in the second before tacking on a run in the eighth.  Marian was able to put together a rally scoring a run in the ninth off a Spartan error, but the Sabres could only manage two hits in the game one defeat.  Senior Michael Snow had both hits and scored the only Marian run of the game.

Freshman Logan Lange (0-3) took the tough-luck loss going 6.0 innings allowing just two earned runs off five hits.  Fellow freshman Connor Medvecz provided the final 3.0 innings on the bump and allowed just one run off two hits.

Game two was just as tight with a late rally from the Sabres falling just short.  The Spartans once again were able to score first with a run in the sixth, but a sacrifice fly from senior Jake Arens in the bottom half of the inning quickly tied things up.  The Spartans retook the lead in the top of the seventh scoring a pair of runs and then added to their lead with another pair of runs in the ninth to go up 5-1. 

Junior Josh Gates started a rally in the ninth with a run batted in before a double play allowed Arens to score, but the pair of runs would be all Marian could manage in a 5-3 defeat.

Senior Sean Meyer had the lone multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while junior Taylor Middaugh went 7.1 innings in his first start of the season and allowed just three earned runs with six punch outs.

Marian travels to Concordia Chicago for a noon twin bill Monday, April 5 before returning home for a pair of doubleheaders.
