Box Score 2 PLYMOUTH, Wis. - Marian University baseball (17-21, 12-6 NACC) earned a spot in the NACC Tournament after defeating Lakeland 12-6 and 8-4 on the road.
The Muskies were on the board first but the Sabres responded with four runs in the third. A sacrifice fly from junior Jonah Landowski capped off the frame but Lakeland was able to tie the game shortly after. The two squads traded runs in the fifth before Marian plated eight runs in the final three innings to take a 12-6 win. A five-run seventh inning helped break the game open for Marian with senior Sean Meyer and freshman Robbie Knorr each driving in a pair of runs.
Knorr, senior Josh Gates, and freshman Andrew Schroeder each had three hits with Knorr driving in three runs and scoring twice. Junior Taylor Middaugh (5-2) had a strong start going 8.0 innings allowing just four earned runs with just as many strikeouts.
Lakeland was able to score first once again in game two before two runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh paved the way for a Sabre sweep. A two-run home run from junior Ricky Lee, his fourth on the season, opened the scoring for Marian in the fourth. Knorr continued his hot day at the dish driving in a run in the fifth with senior Jake Arens also hitting a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
Run-producing hits from Landowski and an error in the sixth put the Sabres ahead 6-4. Another sacrifice fly from Landowski in the eighth and a triple followed by a wild pitch for Meyer in the ninth set the final at 8-4.
Senior Nick Bastien, Meyer, and Gates each had multi-hit games with Landowski also going 1-for-3 with a run scored and two driven in. Freshman Logan Lange (3-4) went 7.0 innings allowing just five hits with eight punch outs to earn the win, while fellow freshman Connor Medvecz earned his fourth save of the season allowing just one hit over the final 2.0 innings.
Marian closes out the regular season hosting Lakeland Sunday, May 9 for a noon first pitch.
