Box Score LOVES PARK, Ill. - Marian University women's soccer (2-3-1, 2-0-0 NACC) won their second straight conference match-up defeating Rockford 5-1.
The Regents were able to score the first goal of the game with an own goal, but the remainder of the game was all Sabres. Junior Ashley Welk was able to tie the game in the 34th minute with her second goal of the season as the squads entered the break knotted at one goal apiece.
Marian was able to benefit on an own goal themselves in the 52nd minute to take the lead for good. Junior Amanda Sincere gave the Sabres some breathing room in the 65th minute with the first goal of her career, assist to sophomore Sophie Giron. Senior Shannon Coughlin then scored in her second straight game to put the Sabres ahead 4-1 before junior Allison Fought collected the first goal of her career with just 2:57 remaining, assist to freshman Kimberly Salgado.
The Sabres finished with a 44-5 advantage for shots with Welk finishing with 10, five of which were on frame. Junior Amy Birner (2-2-1) earned a second-consecutive victory making one save.
Marian travels to St. Norbert Wednesday, Sept. 22 for a 7 p.m. kick-off in NACC action.
