Sabre ACHA D2 swept at tough Lindenwood showcase

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. - Marian University ACHA D2 (3-6-0, 0-0-0 NCHL) was defeated by Florida Gulf Coast, Sault, and Lindenwood at a highly-competitive Lindenwood Showcase.

After a slow start for each offense saw FGCU score the lone goal of the opening period, Florida Gulf Coast would score three times in the second and third period.  Devon Butler was able to light the lamp in the second period and then assisted Dom Pajor in the third period for the only Marian scores.  Will McCreight had a busy day in net and stopped 46 shots.

Marian bounced back from a slow start against Sault but eventually fell in a shootout.  Sault opened the game with a pair of goals before Gavyn Galloway netted a power-play goal to cut the Marian lead down to one after one period.  It was Sault again who opened the scoring for the second but Zach Wilson and Galloway each lit the lamp, separated by just two minutes, to go into the third period at a 3-3 draw.  Both defenses were able to figure things out and neither team allowed a goal in the third or overtime.  In the shootout, Wilson was able to find the back of the net but Sault scored twice to earn the win.  Tyler McArthur was the goalie for Marian with shots and saves not recorded in the box score.

The Sabres were able to hang tight with Lindenwood through two periods but the Lions were able to pull away with a 4-2 win.  Colby Sherlock scored the lone goal for Marian in the opening period as the two squads traded goals.  Each team scored a goal in the second period as well with Simon Ellingson scoring a power-play goal for the Sabres.  McCreight was able to make another 33 saves as he finished the weekend with 79 stops.

Marian opens NCHL play against Aurora Oct. 27-28 with the Sabres hosting the opening game of the series.
