WOOSTER, Ohio - Marian University field hockey (4-2, 1-1 SAA) defeated Wooster 4-1 to close out a weekend of non-conference play.
The opening quarter was a stand still with neither team managing to score. Wooster was able to outshoot Marian 6-0 for the stanza. Marian only managed two shots in the second quarter but made them count scoring on both opportunities. Freshman
Allyson Nichols opened the scoring on a fast-break goal before fellow freshman
Jikke Biemans scored with 4:04 left in the quarter with an assist to Nichols.Â
Wooster was able to score late in the third quarter to cut the Sabre lead in half but a strong final quarter saw the Sabres put the game away. Biemans scored just 2:20 into the final quarter off of a penalty corner, assist from freshman
Merel Nagelkerke. Another penalty corner opportunity saw Biemans score from Nagelkerke to complete the hat trick and seal the win.
Junior
Brenna Abrahamson (4-2) made eight saves in the victory with five of her stops coming in the second half.
Marian returns to SAA play traveling to Transylvania for a 10 a.m. (CDT) game Saturday, October 8.
