Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Offensive outburst leads Marian field hockey past Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Marian University field hockey (6-7, 2-3 SAA) scored a season-high nine goals to defeat Sewanee 9-3 in the final SAA game of the season.

The first quarter only saw one goal when freshman Jikke Biemans scored at the 8:07 mark, but from there the Sabre offense could not be stopped.  Freshman Eva Houtackers was able to score a pair of goals in the second quarter as Marian held a 3-1 lead going into halftime.

The Sabres were able to put the game away with four goals in the third quarter.  Biemans had three of the Sabre goals and Houtackers had the fourth.  The two squads each scored twice in the final quarter with freshman Allyson Nichols and Houtackers finding the back of the cage for Marian.

Houtackers and Biemans each finished with four goals, while Nichols had a goal to go with three assists.  Junior Brenna Abrahamson made five saves in goal to earn the win for Marian.

Marian takes on Sewanee in non-conference action tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. to close out the regular season.
