FOND DU LAC / AURORA, Ill. - Marian University ACHA D2 (4-6-1, 1-0-0-1 NCHL) fell to Aurora 7-6 in overtime before earning a split against the Spartans with a 3-1 win.
The Sabres were able to build a lead after two periods in the opener but a tough third period saw Aurora rally.Â
Karl Lavoie netted a hat trick in just the first period as Marian was able to build a 3-1 advantage. The two squads netted a pair of goals in the second period as Marian held a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes of action. Easton Nick scored on a power play and Dawson Schwengler lit the lamp for Marian. The Spartans would score the first three goals of the third period to take their first lead of the game but a second goal from Schwengler was able to force overtime. Aurora was able to earn the extra point after scoring at the 2:31 mark.
Marian finished with a hefty 52-39 advantage in shots with
Will McCreight making 32 saves.
Marian was able to bounce back after the tough defeat earning a regulation win in the series finale. After a scoreless first period, the Sabres were able to score the lone goal of the second period to take a lead into the third period again. The Sabres were able to put the Spartans away this time scoring twice to earn a 3-1 win. A full box score was unavailable at the time of this release.
