FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's hockey (0-0-1, 0-0-0-0 NCHA) dropped the season opener to CUW in a shootout.
The Sabres were able to get out to a strong start and scored when sophomore Dayna Jones scored her first collegiate goal at the 12:55 mark. Senior
Melodee Eastman earned an assist and this lead held up until the third period. The Falcons were able to find their equalizer with just 6:04 left to play and force an eventual shootout.
CUW would score the lone goal in the shootout in their final attempt.
Marian held the Falcons scoreless on six power-play opportunities. The Sabres outshot CUW in two of the three periods in regulation but were outshot for the game by a 26-25 margin. Junior
Kayla Kolpitcke (0-1-0) made 25 saves in goal for Marian.
Marian takes on UW-Stevens Point Tuesday, Nov. 1 for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
