FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's soccer (4-5-2, 3-3-1 NACC) defeated Dominican for the first time since 2013 with a 1-0 shutout.
The opening half was a defensive battle with neither team able to create many quality opportunities. The Stars were able to outshoot Marian 6-3 for the stanza. Marian wasted no time waiting to score with freshman
Brianna Guelig scoring just 41 seconds into the half with an assist to sophomore
Abby Larson.Â
The Sabres were able to continue to pressure the Stars in the opening minutes but were held off the scoreboard any further. The Sabre defense was also up to the task holding Dominican scoreless and defending five corner kicks in the half.
Marian was outshot 16-7 in the victory with Larson recording a team-high three shots. Senior
Amy Birner (2-4-2) posted her second shutout of the season stopping four shots.
Marian travels to Concordia Chicago for an 11 a.m. kick-off Saturday, October 8.
