RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Marian University women's volleyball (5-18, 2-5 NACC) fell to Dominican in straight sets with set scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-17.
The Stars were able to get out to a quick start on the Sabres jumping out to a 6-1 lead to open the set. Marian rallied and took a 17-15 lead later in the set after a 7-1 spurt. The seesaw battle continued as Dominican managed to take a 23-19 lead only to have the Sabres tie the set at 23-23. Dominican then earned back-to-back points to take the opening set. Â
Marian led for most of the second set building the lead to as large as 21-16. The Sabres were able to pull this lead out to 22-19 only to have Dominican score six unanswered points to take the set. Marian didn't go away quietly as the third set opened with a 9-9 draw. Dominican then put together seven unanswered points to take a 16-9 lead and eventually secure the sweep.
Three different Sabres recorded at least seven kills led by sophomore
Riley Shores who had eight kills. Junior
Serina Pehowski had seven kills to go with four blocks, while fellow junior
Reagan Jasica led the back row with 17 digs.
Marian returns home to host Illinois Tech Friday, Oct. 14 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
