LEXINGTON, Ky. - Marian University field hockey (5-3, 1-2 SAA) closed out a two-game series with Transylvania with a 4-1 win.
The Sabres came out firing and scored twice in the first quarter. Freshman
Allyson Nichols and fellow freshman
Jikke Biemans each scored and earned an assist on each others goal. Nichols then put the Sabres ahead 3-0 going into halftime with a goal with just 2:49 left in the second quarter.
The Marian defense didn't allow a single shot in a scoreless third period before freshman
Eva Houtackers scored the first goal of her career 2:15 into the final period. Nichols closed out the day with an assist on the goal. The Pioneers would score at the 50:39 mark to set the final at 4-1.
Marian outshot Transylvania 15-4 with 13 of the Marian shots being on goal. Nichols had a team-high four shots, while Biemans and fellow freshman
Indi Rameckers each had three shots on goal. Junior
Brenna Abrahamson had a pair of saves in goal for the Sabres.
Marian opens a series at Rhodes Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. (CDT) in SAA action.
