No. 7 Sabre ACHA D2 suffers sweep against No. 4 CUW

FOND DU LAC / MEQUON, Wis. - No. 7 Marian University ACHA D2 (6-10-1, 1-3-0 NCHL) fell to No. 4 Concordia Wisconsin 8-6 at home and 4-3 on the road.

Game 1

  • The offenses exploded in the opener of the series as Marian fell by an 8-6 final at home.
  • The Falcons were able to strike first but Marian rallied scoring a pair of goals at the end of the period.  Shay Nolen scored the first and Karl Lavoie followed.
  • The second period saw the two squads combine for four power-play goals with CUW outscoring Marian 4-1 to take a 5-3 lead.  Easton Nick scored the lone Marian goal in the period.
  • Then each team scored three times in the third with CUW scoring once with an empty net. 
  • Dawson Schwengler and Tyler Studant opened the scoring for the period to tie the game at 5-5.  The Falcons then scored three unanswered before Devon Butler lit the lamp in the final minute.

 

Game 2

  • Another tight battle in game two of the series saw CUW hold on for a sweep with a 4-3 win.  
  • CUW scored the lone goal of the opening period but Marian was able to bounce back in the second period.  
  • Gavyn Galloway and DJ Horne were able to light the lamp in the second period as the Sabres were able to tie the game going into the third period.
  • Dean Whitcomb was able to score for the Sabres but the Falcons managed to score a pair.

Game 1

  • CUW held a slim 43-39 edge in shots and scored three power-play goals.  
  • Six different Sabres found the back of the net.

 

Game 2

  • Concordia Wisconsin outshot the Sabres 53-40 and scored a pair of power-play goals.
  • The balanced offense continued for Marian with three different Sabres scoring.

Game 1

Tyler Studant had a goal and an assist. He was able to tie the game at 5-5 in the third period.
Dawson Schwengler opened the scoring in the third period. He finished the game with a goal and an assist.
Will McCreight made 35 saves in goal for the Sabres.

Game 2 

Dean Whitcomb was the lone Sabre to score in both games and had an assist as well.
Colby Sherlock had a pair of assists.
Will McCreight had one of his best games of the season making 49 saves.
