SUPERIOR, Wis. - Marian University NCAA men's hockey (4-8-0, 1-4-1-0 NCHA) defeated St. Scholastica 2-1 to earn a spot in the Superior Showdown Championship.

• A trio of sophomores opened the scoring when Nick Cherkowski scored at the 5:52 mark, his fifth of the season, with assists to Jordan Simoneau and Adam Nobes.
• Senior Jack Sampson capped off a dominating first period with his fourth goal of the season.
• This proved to be enough offense for the Sabres as St. Scholastica would score with just 3:28 to play to set the final at 2-1.

• Marian outshot St. Scholastica 12-4 in the opening period and finished with a 29-25 advantage in shots.
• Neither team scored on the power play with the Sabres having six opportunities and the Saints five.
• St. Scholastica won 36 of the 58 faceoffs.
• The Sabres stayed unbeaten all-time in the opening round of the Superior Showdown and advance to the championship game for the fifth time in five tournaments.
