Marian NCAA men's hockey claims fourth Superior Showdown Championship

SUPERIOR, Wis. - Marian University NCAA men's hockey (5-8-0, 1-4-1-0 NCHA) claimed its fourth Superior Showdown Championship defeating Gustavus Adolphus 5-3.

  • The Sabres were able to get out to another good start with sophomore Matteo Pecchia scoring his first goal of the season at the 12:47 mark.
  • The two squads went back-and-forth in the second period with Gustavus managing to tie the game 2-2.
  • Sophomore Jaymes Knee netted the Marian goals with assists to senior Jack Sampson and sophomore Daunte Fortner.
  • Marian opened the third period scoring three unanswered goals to pull away.
  • Knee scored the first pair of goals to cap off his first hat trick.  Sampson and Fortner each earned assists on both goals.
  • Senior Brady Pupp gave Marian a 5-2 edge scoring just 11 seconds after the second Knee goal, his first of the season.  Sampson and Fortner each earned assists again to give them each four helpers for the game.
  • The Gusties were able to net a power-play goal late but Marian was able to hold on for a 5-3 victory.
