FOND DU LAC - No. 6 Marian University ACHA D2 (11-5-1, 6-1-0 NCHL) dominated on their home ice defeating No. 11 Marquette to earn their third straight Hap Cup Championship.
Marian was able to jump out to a quick start scoring a pair of goals in the opening period. Tyler Studant opened the scoring for the Sabres just 5:11 in before Tyren Boots finished off a pass from DJ Horne. Simon Ellingson extended the Marian lead 6:31 into the second period and just 1:38 later Connor Rosaasen put the Sabres ahead 4-0. A power-play score from Boots, assist to Rosaasen came at the 11:33 mark as the Sabres just kept on rolling. Another power-play goal for Marian followed with Studant scoring his second goal of the game, assist to Horne. Marquette would finally find the scoreboard with just 53 seconds left as Marian took a 6-1 lead into the final period.
Karl Lavoie was able to open the scoring for the period to put Marian ahead 7-1 before a pair of Golden Eagle goals cut the Sabre advantage down to four. Colby Sherlock would ice the game, however, scoring with just 1:48 remaining to set the final at 8-3.
Marian will now travel to La Crosse, Wis. for the ACHA D2 Regional Tournament February 24-27.
