Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC - Marian University baseball (11-16, 6-10 NACC) defeated Lakeland 11-10 on a walkoff before falling to the Muskies 13-12.
Marian struck first with sophomore Robbie Knorr driving in a pair of runs, but two runs wouldn't be enough for either game on a day where the wind was howling straight out. Lakeland was able to score nine unanswered to build a 9-2 lead going into the bottom of the eighth.
The Sabre rally began in the next half inning with senior Nick Sterman hitting a solo homer and Knorr hitting a two-run blast. Junior Brady Zackrison would drive in a run before freshman James Bornick a two-run homer, the third of the inning. This put Marian behind just 9-8 but Lakeland would score once to put the score at 10-8 going into the last half. Knorr opened the inning with a run driven in before graduate student Sean Meyer tied the game with a single. Zackrison then played hero driving in the winning run with a single.
Knorr paced the offense going 3-for-5 with five runs driven in, while senior Jonah Landowski allowed just three earned runs with six strikeouts in the first 5.0 innings.
One big inning for Lakeland proved to be the difference as the Muskies secured a sweep. Lakeland built a 3-0 lead only to have sophomore Logan Rademan drive in a run and Bornick hit a three-run homer to give Marian a 4-3 advantage. Lakeland tied the game in the fourth before Marian scored four in the fifth to take an 8-4 lead.
Zackrison opened the inning with a double to plate a pair of runs before Bornick hit his second home run of the game, third of the day. Lakeland then rallied in the sixth scoring nine runs, four of which were unearned, to go ahead 13-8. The Sabres chipped away at this deficit scoring a pair of runs in the seventh. A wild pitch in the ninth saw Marian trail by just one at 13-12, but the Sabres couldn't bring in the tying run that was just 90 feet away.
Sophomore Davis Wilson had a strong outing from the bullpen tossing the final 3.2 innings allowing just two unearned runs. Meyer had a four-hit game with two runs scored and Bornick went 3-for-5 with five driven in and three scored.
