Box Score 2 ELMHURST, Ill. - Marian University baseball (10-18, 5-10 NACC) fell to Elmhurst 6-5 and 5-4 in non-conference action.
The Sabres held an early 4-0 lead in the opening game only to have the Blue Jays score six unanswered runs to come back. An error helped open the scoring for the Sabres before senior Josh Gates drove in a run with a single and freshman James Bornick plated two runs with a double. Bornick would bring in another run with his second double in the game in the seventh but Marian could only bring the deficit to one.
Bornick finished 2-for-3 with three runs driven in and one walk, while fellow freshman Riley Richard (0-2) allowed just two earned runs with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.
Roles reversed in game two with Elmhurst taking an early 4-1 lead and earning a late victory. Gates brought in a run in the first inning only to have the Blue Jays sore four runs between the first and second inning. The Sabres were able to tie the game in the third with Gates, Bornick, and senior Jeremy Laffoon all driving in a run. The tie held until the fifth when an Elmhurst home run proved to be the difference.
The Sabres could only manage six hits in game two with senior Jonah Landowski going 1-for-2 with two walks and just as many runs scored. Freshman Jacob Tyczkowski (0-1) tossed the final 5.0 innings allowing just one earned run and four hits.
Marian hosts Wisconsin Lutheran tomorrow, Friday, April 29, for a 3 p.m. NACC twin bill.
