LISLE, Ill. - Marian University baseball (4-8, 0-2 NACC) had a tough day offensively being swept by Benedictine 5-2 and 7-1 to open NACC play.

A slow start in game one proved to be the difference as Benedictine scored four runs in the first two innings, one of which was unearned.  The Eagles added to their lead with a run in the fourth and held the Marian bats in check until the ninth.  Freshman James Bornick drove in a run to get Marian on the board with senior Josh Gates following him with a sacrifice fly. 

Graduate student Taylor Middaugh (2-2) went 6.0 innings allowing just seven hits and four earned runs.  Bornick had the lone multi-hit game for Marian going 2-for-4.

The Sabres were able to score first in game one when graduate student Sean Meyer was able to plate a run in the third inning.  The Eagles were then able to tie the game in the fourth and take a 2-1 lead after six.  Benedictine would score five runs between the seventh and eighth innings to pull away with a 7-1 win. 

Sophomore Logan Lange (0-2) had a solid start going 6.0 innings allowing just three hits with five strikeouts.  Meyer would be held hitless in a game for the first time this season in the defeat.

Marian plays at Dominican Monday, April 4 for a 3 p.m. doubleheader with the Sabres serving as the home team for both games.
