Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC - Marian University baseball (15-24, 10-14 NACC) was defeated by Ripon 8-3 and 10-4 to close out the season.
The Red Hawks were able to jump out to an early lead on the Sabres taking a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the second. Freshman James Bornick scored in the second off of a first-and-third rundown, and junior Dylan Pease cut the Marian deficit down to 5-3 with a single that scored two runs. Ripon was able to pull away after scoring a run in the seventh and two more in the ninth.
The second game of the day saw the Sabres start out fast but a pair of costly errors allowed Ripon to pull away late and earn a sweep. Graduate student Sean Meyer hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the first. Sophomore Logan Rademan then gave the Sabres a 3-1 lead in the second driving in a run. The Red Hawks scored five unanswered runs and took the lead with two unearned runs in the sixth inning. Sophomore Robbie Knorr brought the Sabres to within two at 6-4 with a run-producing single in the seventh, but a Sabre error opened the door for four more unearned runs in the eighth.
Senior Josh Gates struck out three hitters and didn't allow a run over the final 1.1 innings. Knorr finished with the only multi-hit game of the day for the Sabres going 3-for-4 with a run scored and one driven in.
