Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC - Marian University baseball (15-20, 10-12 NACC) stayed in the hunt for a NACC Tournament spot with a split against MSOE.
An efficient and consistent helped the Sabres open an early lead and held on late for a 6-5 win in game one. After the Raiders opened the scoring in the top of the second, Marian immediately had an answer in the bottom half. The Sabres were able to take advantage of Raider errors to plate three runs. Sophomore Logan Rademan had the lone run driven in for the inning.
Sophomore Riley Palmquist got caught in a rundown long enough for Marian to plate a run in the third. Then freshman Gus Walker brought in a run in the sixth to put the score at 5-1. A run-producing single from sophomore Robbie Knorr saw the Sabres build their advantage to 6-1. MSOE cut the deficit down to two in the eighth with a pair of unearned runs before scoring once in the ninth to put the final at 6-5.
Senior Jonah Landowski (5-2) went 7.2 innings allowing just one earned run to earn the victory. Graduate student Taylor Middaugh tossed the final inning to earn his first save of the season. Graduate student Sean Meyer led the offense with three hits, while senior Josh Gates scored twice.
A pitching duel ensued for game two and the Sabres just couldn't take advantage of some late opportunities in a 3-0 loss. The Raiders scored a run in the second, seventh, and ninth inning. Marian would have multiple runners on base in the final three innings but couldn't find the clutch hit to score.
Meyer had another three-hit game to pace the offense. Senior Bryce Lovisa (0-6) had the best start of his career in a tough-luck loss allowing two runs with six strikeouts over 6.1 innings of work. Freshman Jacob Tyczkowski had a strong appearance out of the pen tossing the final 2.2 innings allowing one run with four strikeouts.
Marian travels to Concordia Chicago Sunday, May 8 for a noon NACC doubleheader to close out the regular season.
