ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Marian University men's soccer (2-3-0, 0-0-0 NACC) posted its first shutout of the season defeating Augustana (Ill.) 3-0.
The first half belonged to the Vikings as Augustana outshot the Sabres 9-5, but junior
Aaron Perez helped keep the game a scoreless tie. Marian was able to break through first at the 70:17 mark when junior
Drew Cowden scored his first goal of the season. Freshman
Israel Duran gave the Sabres a 2-0 advantage when he found the back of the net at the 77:22 mark. Just 4:48 later, Duran clinched his first multi-goal game as a Sabre with his second score of the game.
Marian outshot the Vikings 9-8 in the second half with Augustana (Ill.) holding a 17-14 edge for the game. Perez (2-1-0) earned his first shutout at Marian and tied a career-high with six saves. Â
Marian opens NACC play at Wis. Lutheran Wednesday, Sept. 14 for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
