Marian women's soccer cruises past Rockford at home

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's soccer (3-2-1, 2-0-0 NACC) set a season-high for goals defeating Rockford 5-1 at home.

The Sabres didn't allow a single shot in the opening half outshooting Rockford 12-0 but could only find the back of the net once.  The score came off the foot of senior Ashley Welk, her sixth of the season, after she received a pass past the defense from freshman Caitlin Traver.

Marian didn't waste time in the second half scoring just 2:06 in when sophomore Abby Larson scored her first goal as a Sabre with an assist from Welk.  Freshman Brianna Guelig joined Larson scoring her first collegiate goal at the 57:16 mark.  Just 3:47 later, Guelig gave herself her first multi-goal game scoring again with an assist from junior Dallas Kreisa.  This put Marian ahead 4-0 with 29:57 left to play.  Junior Lillian Giron closed out the Marian scoring at the 77:31 mark, assist to sophomore Kimberly Salgado, with her first goal of the season.  Rockford would find the back of the net just 59 seconds later to put the final at 5-1.

Guelig and Larson each had five shots to lead the offense for the Sabres as Marian finished with 27 shots as a team.  Senior Amy Birner (1-1-1) earned her first victory of the season in net.

Marian closes out a five-game homestand Wednesday, Sept. 21 hosting St. Norbert at 7 p.m. in NACC action.
