FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's soccer (3-2-1, 2-0-0 NACC) set a season-high for goals defeating Rockford 5-1 at home.
The Sabres didn't allow a single shot in the opening half outshooting Rockford 12-0 but could only find the back of the net once. The score came off the foot of senior
Ashley Welk, her sixth of the season, after she received a pass past the defense from freshman
Caitlin Traver.Â
Marian didn't waste time in the second half scoring just 2:06 in when sophomore
Abby Larson scored her first goal as a Sabre with an assist from Welk. Freshman
Brianna Guelig joined Larson scoring her first collegiate goal at the 57:16 mark. Just 3:47 later, Guelig gave herself her first multi-goal game scoring again with an assist from junior
Dallas Kreisa. This put Marian ahead 4-0 with 29:57 left to play. Junior
Lillian Giron closed out the Marian scoring at the 77:31 mark, assist to sophomore
Kimberly Salgado, with her first goal of the season. Rockford would find the back of the net just 59 seconds later to put the final at 5-1.
Guelig and Larson each had five shots to lead the offense for the Sabres as Marian finished with 27 shots as a team. Senior
Amy Birner (1-1-1) earned her first victory of the season in net.
Marian closes out a five-game homestand Wednesday, Sept. 21 hosting St. Norbert at 7 p.m. in NACC action.
