FOND DU LAC - Marian University field hockey (2-1, 0-1 SAA) was defeated by Centre 4-0 in the first conference game in Marian field hockey history.
Centre didn't waste much time finding the back of the cage scoring just three minutes into the game off of a penalty corner. The Colonels would score once more in the opening quarter at the 6:18 mark after a rebound found enough open space for a goal. The Sabres would outshoot Centre in the opening quarter by a 5-4 margin but didn't record a shot in the second stanza. Centre would score with just 1:31 left until halftime to put the score at 3-0.
The third quarter was similar to the second quarter with Centre controlling play and scoring just 3:27 in. Marian was able to bounce back in the fourth quarter, however, and outshot Centre once again by an 8-6 margin with all eight shots being on goal.
Freshman
Jikke Biemans had five of the 14 Marian shots, while fellow freshman
Eva Houtackers added four shots. Junior
Brenna Abrahamson (2-1) had a busy day in goal stopping 13 of teh 17 shots she faced.
Marian closes out a three-game homestand and plays its final home game of the season taking on Concordia Wisconsin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21.Â
