LISLE, Ill. - Marian University men's soccer (4-4-1, 2-1-1 NACC) scored a pair of goals in the second half to defeat Benedictine 2-1.
The Eagles were able to jump out to a fast start on the Sabres and capitalized scoring at the 11:31 mark. Marian was able to bounce back nicely in a competitive opening stanza. A strong finish to the half for Marian helped build momentum going into the second half.
An early second yellow card to open the second half helped give Marian an edge. The Sabres were able to break through at the 69:50 mark when senior
Max Kauffman scored his second goal of the season with assists to junior
Drew Cowden and senior
Walter Sebastian. The match looked destined for a tie until junior
Giuliano Corazzina scored with just 1:58 remaining. The goal was his sixth of the season and his third straight game with a score.
Shots finished fairly even with Benedictine holding a slim 18-16 advantage. Cowden finished with a team-high five shots. Junior
Aden Jerome (2-2-1) had another strong performance stopping six shots.
Marian returns home to take on MSOE Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
