Marian women's basketball beats MSOE for second straight win

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's basketball (4-10, 3-4 NACC) shut down MSOE in the second half defeating the Raiders 58-51.

  • Both offenses were clicking in the opening quarter with the two squads battling to an 8-8 tie.
  • MSOE took the first sizeable lead of the game with an 8-2 run and went into the first break with an 18-13 advantage.
  • The two squads continued to go back-and-forth with the Sabres trailing for the entire quarter.  MSOE led by as many eight points but the Sabres would only trail 33-27 going into the half.
  • The Sabres were able to open the second half with a 9-3 run to quickly tie the game at 36-36. 
  • The tie went out to 40-40 before Marian outscored the Raiders the rest of the quarter and took a 46-44 lead into the final stanza.
  • MSOE would retake the lead shortly to open the fourth quarter at 47-46, but the rest of the quarter was all Marian.
  • The Sabres closed out the final 8:04 of the game with a 12-4 spurt to earn a 58-51 win.

  • Marian shot 23-of-60 (.383) for the game and went 6-of-8 (.750) from the field in the third quarter.  The Sabres would shoot 4-of-7 (.571) from beyond the arc in the second half.
  • The Sabre defense held MSOE to just 7-of-26 (.269) shooting in the second half and only 2-of-11 (.182) from beyond the arc.
  • Marian dominated in the paint outrebounding MSOE 40-30 and outscoring the Raiders 36-18 in points in the paint.

Sophomore Lexi Brakebush scored a career-high 16 points to go with nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Freshman Kiara Williams narrowly missed her third straight double-double scoring 16 points with nine rebounds. Senior Paris Harris chipped in eight points with four rebounds and a pair of steals.
