Sabre women's lacrosse falls in double overtime to NCC

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Marian University women's lacrosse (4-4, 0-0 NACC) was able to force overtime scoring with just 25 seconds left but fell in the second overtime session against North Central (Ill.) 11-10.

  • Marian was able to get out to a strong start scoring the first two goals of the first quarter and the final two.
  • The Sabres were able to take a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.
  • Marian scored the opening goal of the second half but the Cardinals responded scoring four of the next five goals.
  • This gave NCC a 7-6 advantage going into halftime.
  • A defensive third quarter saw each team score one goal and the Cardinals go into the final quarter ahead 8-7.
  • Marian tied the game twice to open the fourth quarter with North Central (Ill.) responding after both goals.
  • The Sabres were able to force a free-position attempt with 26 seconds left and junior Dallas Kreisa was able to find the equalizer to force overtime.
  • The first overtime saw Marian record two shots, one on goal, and hold the Cardinals to zero shots.
  • The Cardinals took the opening draw of the second overtime and scored 1:13 in to earn the win.

  • Marian finished with a 36-25 advantage on shots and slim 46-45 edge in ground balls.
  • NCC had a 13-11 edge in draw controls.
  • The Sabre clear had another strong performance going 18-of-19 (.947), while the Sabre defense held NCC to 17-of-34 (.500) on clears.
  • This was the first meeting between the two programs.

Junior Dallas Kreisa once again led the offense scoring five goals with an assist.  She also had 12 ground balls and six draw controls. Sophomore Izzy Newton had a pair of goals to go with nine ground balls. Junior Gwen Kosirog made seven saves with a .389 save percentage.
