FOND DU LAC - Freshman
Hope Matta was named to the NFCA All-Region Third Team becoming just the fourth freshman in program history to earn All-Region honors as a freshman in the NCAA era.
Matta (Valparaiso, Ind.) made an immediate impact for the Sabres sitting at the top of the lineup all season long. Matta adds this award after being named First Team All-NACC where she was also the first freshman to earn that honor since 2017. She was just one of 10 hitters during the regular season to record at least 50 hits in the NACC finishing the season sixth for the category with 55 base knocks. On the base paths, Matta ranked 10th in the conference with 0.89 runs per game and sixth for stolen bases with 16. Matta started in all 38 games and was held hitless in just eight games this season. She had 20 performances with multiple hits and at one point had a six-game multi-hit streak. She also had eight games this season where she scored multiple runs.Â
One of her top performances came in game two against Benedictine where she went 4-for-6 at the plate with two runs driven in and two more runs scored. She also went 3-for-5 with two runs scored against UW-Stevens Point in game two of a doubleheader and went 5-for-7 with six runs scored and a run driven in over the course of a doubleheader with Alverno. In the twin bill against St. Norbert, Matta went a combined 4-for-7 with three runs scored.
