Defense and Pitching Lead Marian Baseball to Sweep of SNC

FOND DU LAC - Marian University baseball (18-17, 11-9 NACC) earned its second straight sweep defeating St. Norbert 4-3 and 3-1 at home.

GAME 1
  • The Green Knights were able to open the scoring in the third with a single.
  • Marian responded when sophomore Gus Walker drove in a run to tie the game in the fifth at 1-1.
  • St. Norbrert was able to retake the lead with a pair of runs in the seventh.
  • The SNC lead didn't last long as gradaute student Jonah Landowski quickly tied the game driving in two runs in the Marian half of the seventh.
  • Aggressive  baserunning in the bottom of the eighth saw junior Logan Rademan score from second base on a potential double play to give Marian the lead for good.
  • The Green Knights went down in order in the ninth as Marian secured the one-run win in game one.
GAME 2
  • Another pitching duel saw Marian take advantage of St. Norbert errors to secure a sweep.
  • Marian opened the scoring with Walker driving in a run with a single.
  • The lead didn't last long as SNC responded in the next half inning with a run of its own.
  • A failed pickoff in the fifth allowed Walker to score before Walker drove in another run with a single in the sixth.
  • This proved to be all the scoring necessary as Marian pitching only allowed one run on three hits.
  • The win put Marian in a virtual tie with Illinois Tech and Edgewood for fifth in the NACC standings.

GAME 1
Sophomore Riley Richard went 6.2 innings allowing three earned runs with eight strikeouts.
Graduate student Jonah Landowski went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs driven in and a walk.
Graduate student Taylor Middaugh (6-2) earned the win not allowing a base runner over the final 1.1 innings.

GAME 2
Junior Logan Lange (3-3) went 8.0 innings allowing just one run on three hits with four strikeouts.
Sophomore Gus Walker went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two driven in.
Senior Jeremy Laffoon went 2-for-4 at the plate.
