Furious rally comes up short for Sabre NCAA men's hockey

FOND DU LAC - Marian University NCAA men's hockey (7-10-0, 2-7-1-0 NCHA) scored three goals over the final 1:49 but fell to Lake Forest 4-3.

  • The Sabres controlled play for most of the opening period but neither team would find the back of the net.
  • Momentum started to shift in a more evenly played second period, but still, the game remained scoreless.
  • Lake Forest would break the dead lock scoring four unanswered goals to open the third period. The first two goals came just 1:10 apart.
  • Freshman Cole Carlson put Marian on the board with 1:49 to play and the Marian rally began.
  • The Marian goal gave the Sabres a chance to empty the net and Carlson would net a second goal off of a face off with the extra attacker and just 54 seconds left to play.
  • Junior Nick Cherkowski cut the deficit down to one with another extra-attacker goal coming with 19.1 ticks left on the clock.
  • Marian would win the ensuing face off and managed to get the puck into the zone but couldn't get a shot off.

  • Face offs were nearly even with LFC holding a slim 30-29 advantage.
  • The Marian penalty kill had a perfect night on four chances, while the Sabre power play didn't score on its only chance of the game.
