Marian ACHA D2 cruises past UW-Milwaukee in NCHL action

BROOKFIELD, Wis. / FOND DU LAC - Marian University ACHA D2 (5-1-0, 4-0-0 NCHL) easily swept UW-Milwaukee in NCHL action with wins of 14-2 and 9-0.

GAME 1 (W, 14-2, AWAY)
  • Marian was able to open the series with a strong start scoring four goals in the opening period.
  • One of the Sabre goals came 25 seconds into the game, while the last one came off the stick of Devon Butler at the buzzer.
  • The Sabres kept on rolling and dominated the second period as Marian built its lead to 11-0.
  • Five different Sabres lit the lamp in the period with Simon Ellingson and Gavyn Galloway each scoring twice.
  • Another three goals from the Sabres in the final period, along with two UWM scores, put the final at 14-2.
GAME 2 (W, 9-0, HOME)
  • Just like the opener of the series, a strong opened period from the Sabres set the tone in game two.
  • Marian lit the lamp five times in the first period including one power-play and short-handed goal.
  • The Sabres were then able to score twice in the final two periods, two of the goals being power-play scores, to easily cruise to a sweep.

  • Marian held a 56-20 advantage for shots with more than 20 shots in the first two periods.
  • The Sabre penalty kill didn't allow a score on five chances, while the Marian power play had a pair of goals.
  • Marian had five student-athletes record multiple goals in the win.
GAME 2
  • The Sabres finished with a 54-18 edge for shots on goal and had at least 14 shots in each period.
  • The Sabre power play went for three goals on 10 chances, while the penalty kill finished a perfect weekend allowing zero goals on six opportunities for UWM.
  • This was the first two games between the two programs.

Gavyn Galloway had a hat trick in the opener and finished the weekend with four goals.
Connor Powers (1-0) earned his first win making 18 saves in the first game of the series.
Damian VanDanacker (1-0) posted a shutout in his first collegiate start stopping all 18 shots he saw in game two.
