Sabre women's basketball stumbles late against St. Scholastica

FOND DU LAC - A strong  first half wasn't enough for Marian University women's basketball (0-3, 0-0 NACC) in a 75-67 loss to St. Scholastica.

  • Marian came out firing and scored 11 of the first 14 points in the game.
  • The Sabres were able to build their lead to as large as 11 points at 17-6 with 4:25 left in the quarter.
  • The Saints were able to stay in the game closing out the quarter with a 9-2 spurt.
  • St. Scholastica was able to trim its deficit down to two a couple of times before Marian a run of seven unanswered points put the Sabres ahead 29-20 with 4:05 on the clock.
  • The Sabres continued to push and were able to build their lead to 41-29 going into halftime.
  • Marian maintained a comfortable lead for the opening minutes of the second half leading 51-41 with 5:36 in the quarter.
  • St. Scholastica then went on a spurt of 12-3 to only trail 54-53 going into the final quarter.
  • The Saints continued their run into the final quarter scoring the first three points to lead 57-54 with 8:55 remaining.
  • Marian was able to hold off the rally and eventually retook the lead at 65-62 with 4:02 left.
  • St. Scholastica then finished the game strong, however, finishing the game with a 15-2 run to put the final at 75-67.

  • Marian finished 22-of-54 (.407) for the game  and went 7-of-19 (.368) on three-pointers.
  • St. Scholastica was 23-of-63 (.365) and 11-of-36 (.306) from beyond the arc.
  • The Sabres had a strong game at the charity stripe going 16-of-19 (.842).
  • The Saints won the turnover battle 23-12 and outscored Marian 25-9 in points off turnovers.
  • Marian is just 1-4 all-time against St. Scholastica with this being the first meeting since 1999.

Senior Lexi Brakebush chipped in 15 points to go with five assists.
Senior McKayla Goebel scored seven points with a team-high seven rebounds.
