Adorno heroics lead Marian men's hoops to record 10th straight win

FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's basketball (9-0, 3-0 NACC) won a program record 10th straight game defeating Aurora 72-64 in overtime.

  • The entire first half was a one-possession game as each side went blow-for-blow. 
  • Marian held a 27-24 lead late only for a triple from Aurora to tie the game at 27 apiece going into halftime.
  • The second half saw much of the same with Marian leading 38-34 with 11:26 to play, the only multi-possession lead for the Sabres in regulation.
  • Marian held a 48-47 lead before Aurora scored five straight points to lead by four, it was both their largest lead and longest scoring run of the game.
  • After some back-and-forth, two free throws gave Aurora a 56-53 lead with 6.4 seconds left.
  • Junior Brandon Adorno was able to go the length of the court and hit a step-back bank-shot triple at the horn to force overtime.
  • Aurora held a 59-58 lead to open overtime before Marian went on a 7-1 spurt to lead 65-60 with 1:33 on the clock.
  • The Sabre defense was able to clamp down from there and the Sabres went 7-of-8 (.875) from the charity stripe in the final 50 seconds to seal the win.

  • Marian held the lead for 21:47 compared to 9:07 for the Spartans.
  • The Sabres finished the game 24-of-63 (.381) from the field and 9-of-26 (.346) on three-pointers.
  • Aurora was 20-of-52 (.385) and hit just one three-pointer on six shots, 16.7 percent.
  • The MU defense held the Spartans to just 2-of-7 (.286) shooting in overtime.
  • Marian held a 25-14 advantage in turnovers forced and outscored Aurora 21-10 in points off turnovers.
  • The Sabre defense also had a season-high six blocks.
  • The win is the 10th straight victory for the Sabres, dating back to last season, the longest winning streak in program history.
  • Marian is now 10-22 all-time against Aurora with wins in five of the last six meetings where four of those victories needed overtime.

Junior Brandon Adorno scored a career-high 33 points to go with three assists and four steals.
Senior Eli Vogel finished with 14 points scoring a game-high 11 points in the opening half.
Sophomore Sam Gingras scored seven points to go with nine boards, two assists, and a block.
