Two quick goals lead Marian women's ice hockey past CUW

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's hockey (7-12-1, 4-7-1-0 NCHA) opened its penultimate regular season series with a 2-1 win over Concordia Wisconsin.

  • Both offenses struggled in the early going as shots on goal came at a premium.
  • Marian was able to open the scoring when freshman Olivia Church-Sowinski netted her first collegiate goal at the 10:03 mark.
  • Then just 51 seconds later, sophomore Logan Crawford netted her fourth goal of the year to put Marian quickly ahead 2-0.
  • Concordia Wisconsin responded with just 7:50 left in the period to cut their deficit in half.
  • This proved to be the only scoring for the remainder of the game as strong work from both goalies became the story line.
  • Concordia Wisconsin spent the final 2:05 with an empty net but Marian was able to hold off the Falcons.

  • The Sabres were outshot 39-26 for the game with the final period seeing each team fire 12 shots.
  • Neither team scored a power-play goal with the Falcons having six chances and Marian just three.
  • Concordia Wisconsin held a 35-28 advantage in the face-off circle.
  • Marian defeats the Falcons in regulation for the first time since 2021.  It is also the first win at home for Marian over CUW since 2016.
  • With the win, Marian is just one point away from clinching a spot in the NCHA Slaats Cup.

Senior Kayla Kolpitcke (3-5-1) made 38 saves including a combined 27 shots between the final two periods.
Freshman Olivia Church-Sowinski scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
Sophomore Logan Crawford netted her second game-winning goal of the season.
