Four from Marian baseball earn CSC Academic All-District recognition

FOND DU LAC - Four student-athletes from the Marian University baseball program have been recognized as Academic All-District by the organization College Sports Communicators (CSC).

The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their efforts both in competition and in the classroom.  To be eligible, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of their team's games, be a key starter or reserve on their team, and attain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. They must also hold at least sophomore standing at their institution.

Junior Tanner Alsteen (Casco, Wis.) earns the first CSC Academic All-District award of his career after a breakout season.  Alsteen proved valuable for the Sabre pitching staff in several different roles appearing in 14 games with five starts.  He would boast a 4.44 earned run average on the campaign over 48.2 innings of work, third on the team.  Alsteen went 4-4 on the year with a save and threw a shutout against St. Norbert where he only allowed two hits over 7.0 innings of work with five strikeouts.  It was one of two complete games for Alsteen with the other coming against Wisconsin Lutheran where he tossed all 9.0 innings scattering seven hits and only allowing a pair of earned runs.  Alsteen would toss at least 5.0 innings in five of his appearances and allowed two or fewer runs in all but one of those games.  He also had at least four strikeouts in three appearances with a season-high five coming in his shutout of SNC.

Senior Robbie Knorr (Sun Prairie, Wis.) adds an All-District selection from CSC after earning an All-NACC First Team nod this season.  Knorr had his best season as a Sabre hitting .328 with 31 runs scored and 24 runs scored on the campaign.  He finished the year fourth on the team for runs scored and base hits with 44.  Defensively at shortstop, Knorr posted a .906 fielding percentage and was involved in 19 double plays.  Knorr posted multiple hits in 12 games during the season with at least three hits in half of those games.  He had a particularly strong stretch from March 30 to April 16 where he went 21-for-45 (.466) over 12 games with eight runs driven in and 14 runs scored.  Then in the opening game against No. 17 Aurora, Knorr went 4-for-5 with two runs driven in and three runs scored.  It was a career-high for hits in a single game for Knorr.

Senior Logan Rademan (West Allis, Wis.) was a Second Team All-NACC and Third Team All-Region to go with the second CSC Academic All-District award of his career.  Rademan finished tied for the team lead with 51 base hits and led the team with his 17 extra-base hits.  He led the team with his 14 doubles and ranked second on the squad with his 39 runs scored.  Rademan was also one of the toughest hitters in the Sabre lineup to strikeout only being retired on strikes 14 times.  On the base paths, he was only caught twice with 13 stolen bases putting him 12th in the conference.  Rademan had multiple hits in 16 games during the season and was held hitless just once over the final 10 games of the campaign.  His best series came against No. 17 Aurora where he was 6-for-7 (.857) with four runs driven in and three runs scored.  He would hit a game-tying home run in game one of that series which led to a walk-off victory for the Sabres.  He also went 3-for-4 (.750) with two runs driven in and four runs scored in game two against Lakeland at home.

Junior Riley Richard (Kieler, Wis.) had a dominating season adding this award after being named First Team All-NACC and Third Team All-Region.  Richard finished the season as the NACC leader for victories after going 7-2 with his five complete games putting him eighth in the entire nation.  He would boast a 3.14 earned run average, third in the NACC, over 57.2 innings of work.  Richard struck out 45 hitters and held hitters to just a .278 average for the season.  He would hold opponents to two or fewer earned runs in six starts of his starts including a shutout against Lakeland that earned him NACC Pitcher of the Week honors and a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.  He also held Dominican to zero earned runs in a complete game victory.  Outside of the Lakeland performance, he also had a nine-inning complete game against Anderson (Ind.) where he struck out a season-high nine hitters.
