No. 7 Marian ACHA D2 sweeps DePaul to open second half

FOND DU LAC / CHICAGO - No. 7 Marian University ACHA D2 (14-2-0, 9-0-0 NCHL) defeated DePaul 12-1 and 5-0 to open the second half of the season.

GAME 1 (HOME, W, 12-1)
  • After a competitive opening period, it was all Marian in the opener of the non-conference series.
  • Cayden Frenette had the lone score in the opening period as Marian led 1-0.
  • Devin Butler and Simon Ellingson each scored in the first 3:28 of the second period to quickly lead 3-0.
  • After a DePaul score, Jackson Sweeney and Justin Doucette each scored a pair of goals, along with a score from Jace Weber, to put Marian ahead 8-1 going into the third.
  • Marian had four different goal scorers in the final period, two of the goals being separated by just six seconds to put the final at 12-1.

  • Marian held DePaul to eight or fewer shots in all three periods and finished with a 47-21 edge for the game.
  • The Sabres held DePaul scoreless on four power-play chances, while Marian themselves were 1-for-2.

GAME 2
  • The Sabre defense once again had a strong game holding DePaul to just 26 shots and finishing with 53 shots offensively.
  • Marian went 1-for-5 on the power play while DePaul didn't score on its only chance.
  • The shutout was the fourth this season for Marian.
  • The Sabres improved to 12-3-0 all-time against DePaul with the sweep.
