Sabre Scratch - Week 7 Recap

Sabre Scratch graphic

We may not have had a lot of home events but that doesn't mean there was a lack of Sabre action! Some of our fall sports are starting to wind down and the reset continue the push for postseason action.  Let's get you up to date with everything Marian Athletics!

MEN'S SOCCER

The week opened with sophomore Brayden Johnson earning NACC Offensive Player of the Week in large part due to his hat trick against Rockford.  He then added a second award the very next day being named the Sabre of the Month for September.  Marian was able to salvage a point in a pair of games away from home.  The Sabres played well against MSOE and trailed 1-0 before the Raiders were able to put the game away with two goals in the final 19 minutes.  Marian bounced back nicely and was able to spoil Senior Day for Illinois Tech rallying for a 1-1 stalemate.  Freshman Szymon Kielar had the Sabre goal in the 57th minute.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Marian opened the week with a solid result against MSOE in a 1-1 tie.  It was the first true-result for the Sabres over the Raiders since 2014! A tough Illinois Tech squad then showed Marian why they remain unbeaten and are receiving votes in the national poll.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Marian continued to battle and took sets in both home matches on the week, but the Sabres are still in search of a return to the win column.  The Sabres opened the weekend going four sets with Wisconsin Lutheran and rallied to go five sets against Illinois Tech.  Senior Alana McDermott had 40 digs between the two matches.

FIELD HOCKEY

One of the toughest weekends of the season saw Marian fall to Division II opponent Maryville and DePauw to finish an eight-match road trip.  Junior Emilee Clarey finished with 14 saves between the two matches.

MEN'S GOLF

Marian was able to finish off The Grand Intercollegiate finishing in 12th place.  The two-round total of 614 for the Sabres was the lowest two-round total since 2019! Next up? The NACC Championship!

WOMEN'S GOLF

The Sabres finished their fall season with a third-place finish at the NACC Championship, the fourth straight season finishing in the top three!  Junior Yinan Lu earned a bunch of hardware including the second medalist finish of her career at the NACC Championship.  Lu had rounds of 76 and 75 before a program-record even-par 71 to cap off her medalist finish.  She was also named the NACC Player of the Week for her medalist finish at the Edgewood Fall Invite.  Jessy Merrell and Katelyn Bucciarelli narrowly missed a spot on the All-NACC team finishing 11th and 12th.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Marian had just one match on the week falling at St. Norbert.  The Sabres will look to finish the season on a high note with three matches this week!

ACHA D2

Marian earned its first victory of the season as part of a split against Marquette.  The Sabres were able to completely shut down Marquette in the opener of the series at home with a 3-0 victory.

ACHA D3

Marian ACHA D3 returned to action with a home-and-home series against St. Mary's (Minn.).  Results were not available at the time of this publication.

MEN'S BOWLING

We can finally report on the results from the opening weekend at the Hammer Golden Eagle Invite where the Sabres finished sixth!  Marian especially did well in Baker play finishing with the second-best score in the field with a 210.4 average.  Tommy Reboletti led the Sabres in traditional play with a 216.8 average.
