Marian men’s basketball falls in close contest at Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Marian University men's basketball (6-4, 3-1 NACC) held a two-point lead with four minutes remaining, but a 13-3 closing run lifted Carroll to a 75-67 win.

  • It took Marian just over four minutes to get their first score, with senior Jazz Orozco's three-pointer breaking the drought with 15:49 left in the first half.
  • Carroll took the largest lead of the game, 11 points, on an Evan Bland layup that capped a 12-2 run with 10:13 remaining for the Pioneers.
  • The Sabres responded with a 12-0 run to grab their first lead of the game at 21-20.
  • A fastbreak layup from freshman Max Breitenbach sent the game into the half tied, 30-30.
  • The teams traded the lead 13 times through the first 9:40 of the second half.
  • Marian hit seven three-pointers in the first ten minutes of the second half, with senior Derek Lindert making all three of his triples during that span.
  • With 8:54 to go, junior Andrew Ayeni's free throws pushed the Sabres to their biggest lead of the day at six.
  • Freshman Marvin Haslett's free throws put Marian up 64-60 with 4:32 remaining, but the lead soon slipped away. 
  • Marian missed its final eight field goals as Carroll closed the game on a 13-3 run to secure a 75-67 victory.
