MILWAUKEE - Freshman Samantha Smith of Marian University women's soccer has been selected as the NACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Smith (West Sacramento, Calif.) was perfect in her Sabre debut leading Marian to a 1-0 victory over Augustana (Ill.).  The Vikings tested her three times and she turned away all three shots to post a shutout in the first game of her collegiate career.  It was only the sixth time in program history Marian posted a shutout in the first game of the season.
