Sabre women's bowling competes at Flyer Classic

LOCKPORT, Ill. - Marian University women's bowling finished 21st at a competitive Flyer Classic.

  • Marian was narrowly defeated by No. 7 Youngstown State by just 43 pins to start Baker play before back-to-back wins against Saint Anselm and UW-Whitewater, who is also receiving votes in the national poll.
  • The Sabre had a tough fourth Baker match before defeating Belmont Abbey to finish 3-2 to open the tournament.
  • In total, Marian finished with 4,565 pins in Baker format or a 913.0 average.
  • Marian faced a tougher schedule in traditional play falling to No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 18 Valparaiso, No. 3 Arkansas State, Neuman, and No. 11 Sacred Heart.
  • The Sabres finished with 4,173 pins in traditional for an average of 834.6 pins.
  • This earned Marian the No. 22 seed for bracket play where Marian opened narrowly falling to Quincy in seven games.
  • Marian bounced back with a win over Indianapolis clinching the match in game six 169-168.
  • A rematch with Quincy saw the two sides open with a 189-189 stalemate.
  • The Sabres then took the next four games to finish 21st.
