Knuth leads Marian softball in sweep over CUW

MEQUON, Wis. - Marian University softball (11-9, 8-2 NACC) hit three home runs, including a grand slam, en route to 9-7 and 4-3 wins over Concordia Wisconsin.

GAME 1 
  • Each team scored in the first inning, with junior Mackenzie Christofferson singling in the Sabres' opening run. 
  • With the bases loaded, Concordia Wisconsin's Rylie DuVal delivered a three-run double to center field.
  • Marian responded with three runs of their own, scoring two earned runs and one unearned run in the second inning. 
  • Trailing 7-4 in the sixth, the Sabres saw senior Ariana Schliepp tie the game with a three-run home run. 
  • In the seventh inning, senior Carissa Heisdorf secured the win for the Sabres with a walk-off home run. 
GAME 2 
  • Concordia Wisconsin took the lead in the first inning with a one-run double.
  • Junior Savanna Knuth delivered in the fourth with a grand slam, driving in four runs for the Sabres. 
  • The Falcons battled back, hitting a solo home run in the fifth and adding another run in the sixth to pull within one. 
  • In the top of the seventh, junior Sabrina Di Vito entered in relief and kept the Falcons hitless, securing the sweep for Marian.

  • Each team managed double-digit hits, with Marian holding an 11-10 edge. 
  • The Falcons' lone error led to an unearned run for the Sabres. 
GAME 2
  • The Sabres sit atop the NACC at 8-2 in conference play with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
  • Marian played error-free on the day, while the Falcons committed one error in game two. 
  • The Sabres outhit CUW 8-6, including five hits in the fourth inning. 
  • Concordia Wisconsin narrowly leads the all-time series against Marian, 49-48.
  • Marian has won five straight in the series.

Junior Savanna Knuth earned wins in both games, pitching a combined 6.0 innings, and hit the game-altering grand slam in game two.
Senior Ariana Schliepp hit her second home run of the season and drove in four runs on the day.
Senior Carissa Heisdorf hit her first home run as a Sabre, a two-run walk-off in game one.
