Marian softball falls to Aurora

BEAVER DAM, Wis. - Marian University softball (11-11, 8-4 NACC) was swept by Aurora, surrendering 28 combined hits in 4-2 and 13-2 losses.

GAME 1 
  • Aurora plated two unearned runs in the first, taking advantage of a Sabres error.
  • Senior Ariana Schliepp's sacrifice fly in the third put the Sabres on the board, scoring sophomore Aubrey Bender. 
  • Junior Savanna Knuth's two-out single loaded the bases, but Marian plated just one run in the third. 
  • The Spartans added two runs in the sixth, one earned and one unearned, pushing their lead to three.
  • Schliepp's second RBI of the game made it 4-2, but Aurora held on with two runners on to secure the win. 
GAME 2 
  • Two Marian first-inning errors led to four Spartan runs in the opening frame.
  • Aurora continued its strong start in the second inning, adding three more runs on four hits. 
  • After the Spartans extended their lead to nine, sophomore Macey Pease recorded the Sabres' first hit of the game, a double to left-center.
  • Senior Hope Matta followed with a two-run double for the Sabres. 
  • Three more runs in the seventh sealed the sweep for Aurora.

GAME 1
  • The Sabres outhit Aurora 9-7.
  • Marian had three errors, compared to Aurora's two.
  • Junior Sabrina Di Vito struck out three across seven innings pitched. 
GAME 2
  • Aurora recorded 21 hits, the most by any NACC team this season. 
  • A season-high four errors led to the Spartans' first four runs being unearned.
  • Aurora's Mia Rivera went 5-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI while pitching all seven innings. 
  • The Spartans lead the all-time series, 40-9.

Sophomore Macey Pease stayed perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 and scoring a run in game two. 
Senior Ariana Schliepp recorded two RBIs in the opener. 
Senior Hope Matta had a two-run double in game two.
