Marian baseball uses fast start to down Carthage

Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. - Marian University baseball (8-12, 2-6 NACC) opened a busy week defeating Carthage 10-7 in non-conference action.

  • The Sabres wasted no time getting on the board plating a pair of runs in the top of the first.
  • Freshman Connor Schroeder drove in a run with a single to cap teh frame.
  • Marian then built its lead out to 6-0 after scoring four runs in the second.
  • Sophomore Ayden Kanaman brought home the first run with a bunt single, while junior Jason Sims plated a run with a double later in the frame.
  • Schroeder was able to once again end the inning with a run-producing single.
  • Carthage was able to score in the second but Marian plated a run in the fifth and two in the seventh to lead 9-1.
  • A double from Schroeder brought home a Sabre in the fifth, while a double from sophomore Zach Ennis brought home a run to highlight the seventh.
  • The Firebirds rallied after the stretch scoring five runs to cut their deficit down to three.
  • A sacrifice fly from junior Keon Booker gave Marian some insurance and pushed the lead to 10-6.
  • Carthage was able to plate a run in their final chance but Marian held off the rally to earn the win.

  • The Sabres had three errors leading to three unearned runs, while Carthage had one error but none of the Marian runs were unearned.
  • Marian was able to draw eight walks, their second-highest total in a game this season.
  • The Sabres stole a season-high nine bases.
  • Marian and Carthage have now split the last eight meetings with this being the first meeting since 2020.

Freshman Connor Schroeder went 3-for-3 with three runs driven in and a run scored.
Sophomore Sean Severson (1-0) earned his first win at Marian going 6.2 innings allowing only three earned runs with six strikeouts.
Freshman Bordy Nolan was 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored.
