Sabre softball opens busy stretch with split against Rockford

FOND DU LAC - Marian University softball (8-8, 5-1 NACC) split with Rockford defeating the Regents 7-0 before a 3-1 defeat in game two.

GAME 1 
  • The Sabres were able to strike first after a scoring a pair of runs in the third.
  • Junior Mackenzie Chrisofferson drove in the second run with a single.
  • Junior Sabrina Di Vito helped her own cause with a run-producing single in the fourth before Marian scored two runs in the next two frames.
  • The fifth inning saw senior Carissa Heisdorf and junior Savanna Knuth drive home a run in the fifth to put Marian ahead 5-0.
  • Senior Ariana Schliepp then capped off a two-run sixth with a sacrifice fly to set the final at 7-0.
GAME 2 
  • Game two saw Rockford score in the opening frame to take their first lead of the day.
  • The Sabres found the scoreboard when senior Ariana Schliepp hit a solo home run to open the fourth inning.
  • The Regents were able to retake the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh.
  • Marian went down quietly in their half of the final frame to finish off the sweep.
