MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS RIPON IN HIGHWAY 23 DERBY
In just the second installment of the Traffic Cone era of the rivalry between Marian and Ripon, the Sabres earned the traveling trophy for the first time with a 2-1 win at home.
Zac Pfister was able to open the scoring just 13 minutes into the game after receiving a centering pass from
Brayden Johnson. The lead lasted just 2:25 as Ripon was able to quickly find an equalizer. The Red Hawks threatened to take its first lead of the game with 3:02 left in the first half but a penalty kick was turned away by
Tyler Hall.  The Sabres were then able to retake the lead for good with a goal from
Jay Wolcott at the 70:57 mark.
The victory improved Marian to 5-1-0 against Ripon over the last six meetings.
Marian went on to qualify for the NACC Tournament for the first time since the 2022 season capping the season with a 0-0 draw against CUW. The shutout was one of five on the season for the Sabres. Johnson paced Marian offensively with his nine goals and three assists to become the first 20-point scorer for the Sabres since that same 2022 season. Earning postseason recognition was
JT Sus who was named a CSC Academic All-District selection after starting in all 17 games and playing all 90 minutes 13 times. He became just the fifth student-athlete in program history to earn the award.
