Marian falls at MSOE

Box Score (Milwaukee, WI) - MSOE scored a goal in each period on Tuesday and came away with a 2-0 victory over the Sabres. The Raiders attack was too much for Marian as they out-shot the Sabres 16-4. The Sabres are now 5-7-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the Northern Athletics Conference.

The Raiders scored in the 31st minute as Patrick Gathof scored off an assist from Dan Hosko to make it 1-0. MSOE added an insurance goal early in the second as Gathof assisted on a Rafael Arndt goal.

Marian's Nathan Thiery (Hartford, WI) was credited with 8 saves in the contest.

Coach Peltonen's Quotes
“What can I say, a tough loss, but we're all responsible for the loss. Three main issues with our game against MSOE tonight. First off we lacked discipline as a team. Having to play short for a couple minutes because we forgot to take our earring out (not in my day), a couple silly yellow cards, not working together as a unit in midfield, and complaining about our own players while sitting on the bench are just not things a good team does. Even I had a lack of discipline reacting to a baiting fan on the sideline. All these things are what a mediocre team does and until we overcome these type of things, we with continue to play inconsistently.”

“Secondly, we need to create more goal scoring opportunities. From having more possession, to more accurate passing, to taking more shots, all these would add to our ability to be more dangerous.”

“Finally, we need to play like we did the final 30 minutes the whole game. I've challenged the team to come up with reasons why we don't. MSOE beat us to the ball and won the vast majority of 50/50 in the first 60 minutes of the game. Once we stepped up the intensity level, we won our fair share of them. This is a given at the college level that you need to play hard from the get go. There is no coasting, no easing into the game, otherwise you'll find yourself down and fighting to either get back into the game or not embarrass yourself.”

“Give credit to MSOE, I thought they played well and created more chances than we did. For guys who played consistently well for us I'd have to say sophomore Denny Mudd did well in the back winning balls in the air and on the ground, and freshman Percy Perry covered a lot of ground in the center of midfield for us.”
