Coach Peltonen's Quotes
“It was good to get out of there with a victory. A lousy weather day, poor refereeing, a physical and hustling WLC team, and add that we weren't at our best, and the result could have gone the other way. We started out well when a serve in the box from Luke Peltonen found the head of Kevin Mawhinney who then put the ball of the post, and then Mario Pinto follows it up with a shot to the lower corner that gave us an early lead two games in a row. WLC wasn't going to back away and were dangerous on any restarts into the box in the first half. At the 16 minute mark Jim Chavez is shielding a ball over the endline and a WLC player goes through his legs and knocks him over to get the ball and serve it into the box. Freshman keeper Tim Wszalek parries the ball to the other side of the goal and it goes off Denny Mudd and into the goal for an own goal. Marian 1 WLC 1, and that is how the first half ended.”
“I thought we had more control of the game in the 2nd half, but couldn't get any real dangerous scoring opportunities. Finally in the 70 something minute, freshman Jose Roman had a short serve from just outside the box and found fellow freshman Jacob Dorsey whom headed over the well positioned keeper. A great time for both of them to come up with their first collegiate points.”
“It's been a while since we've not played well and still got the victory and we should feel fortunate that we left WLC with the 3 points.”
