Coach Peltonen's Quotes

"I don't' know what it is, but we don't play that well on field turf. Out of five games on field turf this year, we are 0-4-1. Not a great record. We created some chances in the first half and could have been up 3-0, but we weren't able to capitalize on those opportunities. Freshman David Reinke had a nice combination play with senior Kevin Mawhinney only to see his shooting attempt go right at the keeper. Sophomore Everett Zank had a great chance being all alone at the far post only to put the ball wide off his head. Finally though, freshman Jose Roman, after a nice step up to win the ball, served it  into the box where Reinke battled a defender and beat the CUC keeper to the ball and put it past him to give us a halftime lead of 1-0.”

“I felt comfortable going into the second half, but a defending error opened up the passing lanes for the CUC attack and they finished a nice goal. Soon after that they received a penalty kick and went up 2-1. A few minutes after that freshman Mario Pinto was fouled in the box and junior defender Rob Ogden stepped up and calmly put the penalty away to tie the score. It ended 2-2 after regulation and we weren't able to go into overtime because we ran out of daylight. We'll have to see what the ruling about this is and whether we'll be able to finish the game at a later date.”

“Players to be recognized are; junior forward Milan Stupar, as he did a nice job  holding the ball in the first half as a target player, Mario Pinto woke up in the second half to be a force up top, just missing a winning goal late in the second half as well as getting fouled for the penalty. Ogden and freshman Brandon Zipperer were solid in the center of defense for us, winning a lot of balls on the ground and in the air for us, and finally freshman Jacob Dorsey who showed a lot of heart with his play off the bench. Keeping possession and changing the point of attack, with both being related, continues to be a problem area for us.”
