(Mesa, AZ) - Marian University opened their season with a pair of defeats against Thomas College. The Sabres fell 15-2 in game one and dropped an extra-inning, 7-6 decision in game two. Marian is back in action again tomorrow, as they will play a doubleheader against \#14 Eastern Connecticut State at Gene Autry Complex.
In game one, the Terriers scored every inning and broke a 4-0 game wide open with four runs in the fourth and six in the fifth. Marian scored twice in the sixth as Chad Langley (Racine, WI) knocked in a run for the Sabres.
Anthony Porcaro (Burlington, WI), Tim Holtz (Oshkosh, WI), and Ryan Hiller (Marshfield, WI) each had two hits in the contest for the Sabres.
The Terriers out-hit the Sabres 14-11 in the contest.
In game two, the Sabres out-hit Thomas 6-5, but couldn't hang onto a late lead.
Marian fell behind 3-0 going into the bottom of the second, but scored four times in the frame. Ryan Seifert (Germantown, WI) had a two-RBI single, while Will Martin (Villa Park, IL) added an RBI-single.
The Sabres kept that lead until the top of the sixth, but gave up three runs and trailed 6-5. Marian responded in their half of the sixth with two of their own. Langley and Holtz had RBI-singles in the inning. Marian had a chance for more, but had a guy thrown out at third on Holtz's single to end the inning.
After a scoreless seventh inning, the Terriers scored a run in the top of the eighth. Marian stranded runners on first and second in the bottom of the inning.
