MENOMONIE, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Four second period goals by host UW-Stout were too much to overcome for the Marian University men's hockey team as it dropped a non-conference affair to the Blue Devils Saturday evening, Oct. 22.

Dakota Dubetz and Brendan Roberts recorded two points apiece, both assisting on Bryce Wilson and Tanner Burton's third period goals. The Sabres were coming off an exciting, 5-4, season opening win over UW-Stevens Point that came down to the wire, but were unable to follow it up with back-to-back wins to start the year. Meanwhile, UW-Stout followed up a 6-1 opening night with another six-goal output tonight.

The Blue Devils improve to 2-0 with the win, while the Sabres fall to 1-1 on the young season.

After a scoreless first period, UW-Stout's Branden Gay scored just 13 seconds into the second. Five minutes later, Dan Cecka added another goal to make it 2-0. In the final two minutes of the second stanza, Stout's Kevin O'Donnell and Joe Beaudette doubled the Blue Devil lead and the rout was on.

Beaudette's goal was the result of a 5-4 power play as the Blue Devils were 1-for-3 on the night. Both Sabre goals by Wilson and Burton in the third period were also by virtue of the power play as they were 2-for-4, but they weren't enough to steal a victory from the host Blue Devils.

Josh Baker made 22 saves in goal for Marian in the first two periods before Randy Willis took over to make seven third period saves. Stout goaltender Tom Lescovich made 31 saves in earning the win for the Blue Devils.

The Sabres will be off until Nov. 4, when they host Lake Forest College in the MCHA opener at Blueline Family Ice Center at 7 p.m.
